The Rune Knight (RK) is the 3rd job class of Knights on ChronoRO. Rune Knights are powerful physical damage dealers, capable of dealing heavy melee damage to a single target or destroying mobs of enemies using Dragon Breath. They also have access to special consumable items called runes, which perform a variety of unique buffs and effects.
Builds
Dragon Breath
A party-oriented AoE build that's very popular for group PVM and organized War of Emperium. The build revolves around spamming Dragon Breath and Dragon Breath - Water to hit large areas at once. Both skills carry a hefty 2-second cast delay, so this build lives and dies by After Cast Delay reduction — gear like New Wave Sunglasses and support from Poem of Bragi help a lot to keep the skill spammable when playing solo isn't an option.
The priority for stats is HP and SP above everything else, with cast delay reduction weighted heavily. Note that Dragon Breath can carry elements other than Water and Fire since the runes rework.
Suggested stats:
- STR: 1–100
- AGI: 1–100
- VIT: 100–130
- INT: 100–120
- DEX: 100–130
- LUK: 1–100
Point allocation depends on whether you're building for WoE or PVM — AGI and LUK help with resistances — but the core of the build is fast cast plus a large HP/SP pool from VIT/DEX/INT. STR mostly just covers your weight limit, though it can support a hybrid build mixing in other heavy-hitting skills.
Critical ASPD
A strong solo-play build built around self-buffs, particularly the Lux Anima Rune. This turns the Rune Knight into a devastating auto-attacker, and since critical hits ignore FLEE, it also works well against hard-to-hit targets.
The trade-off is limited reliable AoE outside of the passive proc from Storm Blast, which restricts a pure version of this build to certain endgame content. It can be hybridized with other builds to add single-target ASPD damage, e.g. against MVPs.
Suggested stats:
- STR: 100–130
- AGI: 1–120
- VIT: 100 total minimum
- INT: 1–30
- DEX: 1–80
- LUK: 90–130
STR carries your damage. AGI is very gear-dependent — 193 ASPD is achievable with just 1 base AGI given the right equipment, though some AGI is still worth keeping for Flee and status resistance. DEX/INT mostly support a secondary AoE skill and light SP regen and can be dropped if unneeded. LUK depends on your boots and how much CRIT you need — see the Footgear section for options.
Spiral Pierce
A single-target burst build, less common than the two above, aimed at bossing in party instances. It leans on a Minstrel's Poem of Bragi (or personal After Cast Delay gear) to reduce the skill's cast delay, plus a way to cut the fixed cast time — Temporal Boots Of Dexterity [1] or the newer Illusion Leg A-type [1] with a Modification Module (Fixed Casting) both work well and noticeably improve the build's DPS.
Spiral Pierce is the core skill, but the build can hybridize with Dragon Breath / Dragon Breath - Water or Ignition Break for both AoE and single-target coverage, at the cost of occasional gear swaps mid-fight.
Suggested stats:
- STR: 90–120
- AGI: 1–100
- VIT: 100 total minimum
- INT: 1–120
- DEX: 60–120
- LUK: 1–120
Stats aim at 193 ASPD for faster spamming while keeping enough survivability and status resistance. Spiral's cast time is already short, so DEX isn't mandatory but helps shorten it further and adds HIT. INT supports SP regen and cast time and enables the Dragon Breath hybrid path. Leftover points can go into LUK for HIT, or be redirected toward a CRIT hybrid since Spiral Pierce doesn't benefit from AGI UP — Vernan [2] in particular lets you share gear with a Sonic Wave build.
Ignition Break
An expensive melee build reliant on heavy gear investment — high-refine Old Rune Circlet [1] and [Bio 5] Seyren Windsor cards are close to mandatory since the build centers on Ignition Break.
The skill's base cooldown is 2 seconds, reducible with a Volar [2] (−1s) and a +11 Automatic Armor A-type [1] carrying 2 Automatic Module (Wave Break) (−0.5s). Cheaper alternatives exist (e.g. +9 Str Soutane [1] with a +9-or-higher Claw Sword [2]) but with a noticeable drop in DPS.
Since the rework, Ignition Break uses your normal CRIT rate to land critical hits rather than requiring 200+ CRIT, but reaching 100% crit uptime still calls for heavy investment in gear that boosts CRIT. This makes it easy to share gear with a pure auto-attack build. The skill has no fixed cast, so DEX, INT, and/or cast-time-reduction gear help keep the variable cast snappy.
Suggested stats:
- STR: 100–130
- AGI: 1–120
- VIT: 80–100
- INT: 1–100
- DEX: 1–120
- LUK: 1–125
Distribution depends on whether this is your dedicated farming build or a hybrid swap added to something like a Critical ASPD build. STR carries damage, DEX/INT manage cast time, and LUK covers CRIT. VIT/AGI should sit around 100 for status resistance.
Sonic Wave
A ranged skill that also crits, with no cast time — a safe, reliable damage option in most situations since it uses your existing CRIT rate.
Its cooldown is 1.75 seconds, dropping to 0.25s with a Vernan [2] (a flat 0.5s delay still applies regardless). Damage scales further with gear such as the Mora Peuz Set, Black Ribbon[EVT] [1], and cards that boost critical and ranged damage.
Suggested stats:
- STR: 100–130
- AGI: 1–120
- VIT: 80–100
- INT: 1–30
- DEX: 1–120
- LUK: 1–125
Because the skill is both ranged and critical, DEX is mostly relevant if you're recycling gear or min-maxing with something like a Menblatt Card that scales off DEX. Otherwise this plays like a standard CRIT build: ASPD to reduce the animation, STR for damage, LUK for CRIT, and VIT for survivability.
Hundred Spears
A heavy-hitting ranged skill with a long variable cast that can anchor its own build. Building fully around it is an endgame investment — a +13 Illusion Pole Axe [1] drops the cooldown to 1 second for near-continuous spam. Outside of that, it slots fine into a rotation alongside Sonic Wave and Ignition Break, keeping in mind gear that boosts one skill may not boost the others.
Suggested stats:
- STR: 100–120
- AGI: 1–120
- VIT: 100 total minimum
- INT: 1–60
- DEX: 60–120
- LUK: 1–60
A dedicated build essentially requires a Menblatt Card in the garment slot to maximize damage, which pushes DEX to 120. STR remains the main damage stat, VIT covers survivability, LUK adds HIT and some ATK.
Wind Cutter
A strong beginner and leveling build that stays relevant well into the endgame as a pack-clearing AoE option, provided the player adapts around its limitations as a hit-dependent skill.
Since the skill's animation is delay-based (capping around −40% delay under ideal conditions), gear like the Mora Peuz Set and Black Ribbon[EVT] [1] boosts early damage, with further delay-reduction gear improving DPS over time.
Damage type depends on the equipped weapon:
- 2h Sword: Melee damage, 2 hits, ignores DEF entirely
- 1h/2h Spear: Ranged damage, 1 hit
- Other weapons: Melee damage, 1 hit
Suggested stats:
- STR: 100–120
- AGI: 1–120
- VIT: 50–100
- INT: 1–120
- DEX: 60–120
- LUK: 1–60
Add enough AGI on top of DEX to reach 190 ASPD, since the skill's cooldown is only 0.2s (193 isn't necessary unless building a hybrid). STR is the main damage stat, DEX mostly covers HIT to avoid misses, and LUK contributes a bit of the same in edge cases. Farming-focused players may want extra INT to offset the SP cost.
